Sunbird Computers · First accessory

Set it in the light.
It does the rest.

The Sunbird One is a bamboo-and-brass mechanical keyboard that charges from the light already in your life — a window sill, a desk lamp, the office ceiling. Type for months. Charge it by putting it down.

01 · Light in · The office

Charging right now, under these lights.

Watch the spine. Even office fluorescents feed the photovoltaic strip while you work — real-time detection meters every lumen the room gives. At home, an hour on the window sill while you're away does the heavy lifting. There is no charging ritual, only the habit of putting things where they belong.

02 · Feel · The desk

Tactile by conviction. Linear by choice.

This is where the Sunbird One lives most of its life: your daily driver, tuned around a deep, low thock — the sound of focus and deep work. Cherry MX Blue+ tactiles ship on the board with optical blacks on the home row, and a Dvorak layout is one toggle away.

Every key is hot-swappable. Quiet linears go in for the coworking space or the café, and come back out at home — same board, different room, no apologies to your neighbors.

03 · Carry · The departure

It fits the bag. The bag fits the day.

The 65% frame slips into a backpack flat against your laptop. At the desk it runs 2.4 GHz at the fastest polling rates; on the move, Bluetooth holds three devices — desktop, phone, tablet — and switches between them on the fly. Prefer copper? Plug in over USB-C whenever you want.

A physical switch flips the key map between macOS, Windows, and Linux instantly — Command, Windows, and Control are always where your thumbs expect them, on every device you own.

04 · Inspect · The studio

Take it apart.

Every layer earns its place. The shell is bamboo — warm, light, and fast-growing. Beneath the caps, TMR sensors (tunneling magnetoresistance) read the magnetic field of each keystroke instead of waiting for metal contacts to touch: nothing wears, nothing chatters, and actuation can be set anywhere along the travel.

Hall effect works on the same contactless idea — a magnet in the stem, a sensor below, an analog reading of exactly how far the key has moved. WASD ships Hall effect for play; opticals swap in and out alongside it.

And underneath it all, the brass backplate — there when you want weight, gone when you want grams.

05 · Weight · The dock

Brass where it counts.

At your desk, the removable brass plate becomes a dock: set the board onto it and it gains the planted, permanent feel of something that belongs in your space. A removable USB-C cable waits at the dock if you ever want copper. Traveling light? Lift the board off, leave the weight behind.

When the USB-C port isn't feeding your computer, it works the other way — top up your phone from the keyboard's cell.

06 · Screen · v1.5 & v2

A screen that does what you tell it.

From v1.5 onward, an optional programmable touchscreen sits beside the keys. Out of the box it shows the weather, your battery, custom telemetry. Program it to launch anything, pair it with your phone for auth, or run it as a full macro pad.

Content creators: pair your phone and mirror an Elgato Stream Deck app interface right on the board — scenes, sources, and sound cues at your left hand.

Questions

The honest part.

What is a group buy?+

A group buy pools orders before manufacturing begins. Everyone commits up front, the batch is produced together, and the scale is what makes a board like this possible at $221. You order now; we build and ship as soon as units are available this year.

You'll receive an email confirmation from us directly when you order, and your board ships to the address you provide.

Who is running it?+

We are — no middleman. Sunbird Computers is a business registered in North Carolina, run with a strong network of veteran tech professionals, and we're working with popular, proven vendors on the first iterations of the board.

What about v1.5 and v2?+

v1.5 adds the programmable LCD touchscreen and the adjustable 65% → 100% layout with numpad and macropads. v2 is in active R&D — spend there already exceeds five figures. The v1 group buy is the foundation that funds both.

Why is $221 a good deal?+

Because v1 is our go-to-market flagship, priced for the group buy rather than retail. Solar charging, TMR sensing, hot-swap, bamboo and brass, tri-mode wireless — boards with this hardware typically land well above this once they hit shelves.

When does it ship, and how do I reach you?+

As soon as units are available this year. Every order gets a direct email confirmation, and our support channels — chat, text, voice, Discord, X — are open the whole way.
